POLA KOMUNIKASI DUA ARAH DALAM PENGEMBANGAN HUBUNGAN MAHASISWA BATAK DI BALI YANG MENJALANI PACARAN JARAK JAUH
Abstrak
This research focuses on the experiences of Batak students in Bali and their partners in maintaining long-distance relationships. In general, the aim of this study is to describe and explain the role of two-way communication in the development of relationships among couples undergoing long-distance relationships. Specifically, the study aims to identify and explain the role of two-way communication patterns in the relationship development of Batak students in Bali who are in long-distance relationships. The research is analyzed using the Social Penetration Theory by Irwin Altman and Dalmas Taylor, which outlines the stages of relationship development: orientation, affective exploration, affective exchange, and stable exchange. This study employs a qualitative research method using both primary and secondary data sources. The data collection techniques used in this study include in-depth interviews followed by documentation, which are analyzed through data reduction and data display, and presented descriptively using words or sentences. The study reveals that applying two-way communication patterns is crucial for maintaining and developing long-distance relationships. It emphasizes the importance of mutual respect, kindness, being a good listener, empathy, and providing clarity to one's partner. Additionally, the informants in this study stated that they use social media to communicate, such as video calls, voice messages, and text messages. The researcher also suggests that readers should not be hasty in sharing personal information with new acquaintances and should pay attention to the stages of relationship development, carefully considering what is given and what is received in a relationship
