Abstrak

The Arctic is a unique region that has been a contested space among actors in International Relations since the post-Cold War era. Greenland is an island nation in the Arctic region that has garnered the attention of several countries, especially the United States, for ownership. This writing aims to understand the reasons why the United States is interested in having Greenland. The concept of Geopolitics is employed as the scholarly foundation in this research to explain the potential held by Greenland and to connect it with the United States' interest in the region. The author employs a qualitative method using document analysis techniques to analyze the issue. Based on the data analysis, the research findings point to numerous geopolitical potentials of Greenland that could benefit the United States. These potentials include its strategic geographical configuration due to its location in the Arctic, rich natural resources in minerals, direct proximity to Europe, economic opportunities through potential new trade routes, and the presence of an airbase and ballistic missile detection radar at Thule Airbase
